reader survey for blogs

Peter Harter sent me the link to a very interesting study by Henry Copeland on Blogads: reader survey for blog advertising

Henry apparently surveyed 17,159 blog readers -- which is an impressive sample size. he found out some very revealing stats (and some depressing ones like the fact that 79% of the survey respondents are male).

Upcoming Commonwealth Club event on social networking

this is worth checking out:

Commonwealth Club presents:

Networking.Dot.Com: The Future of Networking is Online

Monday, March 22, 7:00pm

Ben Smith, CEO of Spokesoftware.com
Valerie Syme, Executive VP of Marketing and Business Development and co-founder of Tribe

Jas Dhillon Co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer, Zero Degrees

Auren Hoffman, Moderator, Chairman of the Stonebrick Group

The latest place to meet new friends and business contacts isn't in the flesh. It's online. Whether you're part of a tribe; linked in or just spoken for, you're part of the latest wave of people who are using the internet to leverage their social and business networks. It's all based on the principle that it's not your strong personal ties that land you the new job or get you that contract, but it's those weak ties, those second and third degree connections that do the trick. But how does it work and how can you make it work for you? Is the future of networking truly online?

Venue: Trader Vics in Palo Alto
4269 El Camino Real
Palo Alto

Time: 6:30 Registration; 7:00 pm Program; 8:30 pm Reception & Networking

Cost: $20 for members; $30 for non-members

Interuptions while flying

DO THE AIRLINES CONSPIRE AGAINST ME TO INTERUPT MY SLEEP?

I fly cross country ... a lot ...

I like to sleep on the plane -- but what's the deal with the constant wake up calls?

"This is your caption speaking -- ladies and gentlemen, just to wake you up out of your nice sleep -- I wanted to let you all know that are now flying over LittleKnownTown, WY" ...

Or "everyone wake up!!!! CBS' "Eye on Ameirca" is about to start! that's my favorite show -- when i'm not flying, i always watch it with mom. mom doesn't like it very much -- she says the show gives her gas. So don’t eat all your peanuts in anticipation!"

And on American Airlines, for some reason the flight attendent has to repeat everything the caption just said ... "Passengers, -- excuse me! Passengers, I know you all just heard the captian say to fasten your seatbelts right away. I just wanted to repeat the exact same message -- this time in a brooklyn accent -- 'please fasten your seatbelts -- badda bing badda boom!'" ...

A brief history of Summation

Summation first blogged on Feb 3, 1997 ... but it wasn't the type of blog one sees today ...

it was a web blog without the fancy tools, the neat tricks, and the ideal tracking. it was, i presume, just an old fashioned web site with a few gentle thoughts ...

the first Summation blog was a random thought on advertisements in space ...

The first Summation newsletter was sent to 27 of my close friends... minutes later, 14 of them unsubscribed ... but from the 13 loyal fans (including my brother, Jonathan), we have been able to grow the newsletter to over 12,000 committed readers ...
