Clinton and Wal-Mart

according to the Wall Street journal today, Hillary Clinton was formerly a board member of Wal-Mart.

that was the first I've heard of this.   i did some digging and, sure enough, Mrs. Clinton serves on the Wal-Mart board of directors from 1986 to 1992 (not long before she became first lady).

During those six years, Wal-Mart was one of the fastest growing companies in the world.   This experience must have been one that us useful to Senator Clinton.

So what's your point here? Most board members do nothing but collect a check, particularly in the pre Sarbanes days.

She was appointed to appease the governor. Hardly seems like a merit appointment or like the type of thing from which she's gain real management experience. I'd even venture to guess that most of what was discussed at those meetings went right over her head.

You may find my post discussing Obama's slam of Clinton for being a Walmart director, and my comparison of Walmart and Google's level of evil, of interest: http://mathoda.com/archives/184

Uh, folks...when you have lots of political influence and perception of power you need to buffer that part of your resume that says "boards and commission you served"

Yes, there is an opening on several commissions and boards many of them nonprofit people use that as a stepping stone to the FOR PROFIT ones that MAKE THEM MORE POWERFUL.

Now this lesson in cult of personality is brought to you by a dose of reality. Every congressman and Govenor has been on a board before being elected also...their children, in-laws, spouses, even their pet sitter is on a board of one thing or another. It give the PERCEPTION that they have influence and experience as a decision maker.
Obama, Clinton, Bush even Hoffman have served on boards, now if you don't mind please stop using your soapboxes as some kind of spotlight of some injustice because when YOU get POWERFUL you will most likely be serving on some BOARD too..
My preference is a surfboard but, i keep falling off ...I use too much wax.
